To appreciate art, one must communicate with it. One cannot stare at the ground with one’s hands in one’s pockets, uttering a meagre syllable here and there. Instead, one has to stand up tall, look it in the face, gaze into its eyes, and engage wholeheartedly in conversation with it. Sure, there will be first impressions, but beneath and beyond those, there will be, with conscientious effort, revelations of greater breadth, greater depth.
